We finally got high speed Internet!

Posted by Van on March 21, 2009

Well, it looks like we were the first ones on the block to get high speed internet service. We live so far from the city, it has been hard to get any kind of internet service out here. I’ve looked into satellite and wireless internet providers. I’ve looked at DSL, ADSL, and Cable. I even looked into trying to get the local telecommunication company to lay a fiber optic line out here. When you live so far from the city, about 63 miles to be exact, you tend to find it pretty hard to get anything. I think the advantages really outweigh the negative aspects. Living this far out, you don’t have to deal with pollution or traffic.

I’m happy that the local cable company finally offered a high-speed solution. In a cul-de-sac of three homes, we are actually the first one with high speed Internet. Imagine that, 63 miles from civilization and I can actually watch a movie online. I plan on finally getting my business online as well. Now that really have a way of contacting people, I’m pretty sure it will have a chance to really thrive. I’m just glad that I don’t have to use dialup anymore.

    Hey high-five man!

We just got broadband the other day too… ADSL to be precise. We live 4 miles from our central office (which provides the service), and we could never get it because the maximum for DSL is 18,000 feet (3.4 miles).

But they’re extending it using repeaters to allow for my entire area to get the service! It’s great! I’m too far to qualify for their Ultra Fast service (20 Mpbs), but jeez 1.5 Mbps suits me just fine after 56 Kbps for the past 10 years!

Happy browsing! (I can now watch Youtube :) )
